2-23-11 Just another patient day with a twist

I was so proud Wednesday I finished my patient so early that I had an hour to spare. Though I had anticipated this and previously scheduled with my next patient the day before. They failed to come and I felt so unproductive! GRRR when meeting requirements it feels like any day wasted is so bad and that you always need to be on the ball. I was really mad because I was going to take a full mouth within that time but again what can you do when the patient didn't show up. So the goal that day was to finish up early which I did and make sure all PE's that were possible were passed off. Goal I would have to say was met, but at the same time I'm sad that I didn't get the most out of my clinic day.

On a good note though I was able to help everyone, who had a longer day then me, clean up and get out of there close to on time. That was my day, yes, they are getting less and less eventful but I hope I'm getting a lot faster.  The main problem I think I'm running into now is keeping my instruments sharp! So it's off to the grid stone for me this weekend! Later!

Should have been Wednesday's Post... :)

So to pretend this is Wednesday and that I have just finished clinic. When in actuality I'm at work doing homework :) ha ha yes my job rocks. Well Wednesday was a lab day so we didn't have any patients but worked on improving our skills and practicing using the diagnodent, blood glucose test, and how to properly clean dentures. I can't say it was the most entertaining day in clinic but I guess it gives us a nice break. To be honest I think I was so tired that I could have just fallen asleep in clinic. But yeah it was good always good to learn new things. I do have to say that I'm so stoked to not have clinic on Monday, yes it makes requirements into crunch time but I'm so happy to have a break. Today I'm doing lots of homework but I'm also taking Nate out for his Valentines surprise! I got us tickets to.... oh wait he might read this so better to tell next time . :) I'm really excited though. Well better get back to the grind but I'll write more later. Peace! :)

Mondays are awesome! 2-14-11

Well I finished my first Class 2 day YAY! it feels good to get that done! And wow I didn't remember calculus being that hard... wow! I'm going to need to sharpen every instrument I own! So today's goal was met by finishing him but i wish I could have done more. Umm It's Valentines Day so pretty happy about that but that's all for today folks..... :)

New Patient Day

Well lol if I was having a bad day before I came into Clinic I sure didn't went I left. I had the pleasure of coming to clinic today and being able to see Sam in her snow coat setting up here unit. Ha Ha I don't know why it was so funny but since the locker room was locked this morning we all had to trek into clinic with all our stuff and start setting up so we weren't behind. :) It really ended up being a great day though. My patient was really late but completely nice. He was really willing and took to heart the gingivitis talk I gave him ha ha. I think the funniest thing he said as I was cleaning his not seen in two years wow was... "Wow my gums hurt," lol I know that's not very funny but I was ready to bust out laughing. I was like well what were you expecting when you don't take care of your self. Patients crack me up and give me great experiences! I for sure met my goal because inspite of being late I did a whole OD, XRays, and 2 quads. I was extremely happy!

Oh yeah I was so excited about Ghana last time I forgot to tell about my braces experience. Well first things first they are hard to probe and harder to clean. It was nice because I had a really fun patient but it was definitely something new. But either way I was happy with his appointment also.

So all in all I think my next goal is to pass off as may PE's as I can with my class 2 next week! and oh yeah HAPPY EARLY VALENTINE's DAY! :D well I'm off to bed still catchin up on all the homework since this Ghana project is putting me a little behind. Best of Luck every one!

New Project!!!!!! :D Getting really excited!

Alright this post is a little not dental hygiene related but I had to share the good news! A have the opportunity to create a  program for improvement of oral health care in West Africa! Now for a little background I have always wanted to do humanitarian work in Africa! I didn't know why at a very young age I was drawn to that continent but for some reason I knew I wanted to do work there. Well as a poor college school you don't have very much money to participate in these grand endeavors  or search out these study abroad programs so this scholarship has given me the chance to help serve but not have to go right at this particular moment. I have the challenge of making 100 instruction packets which we are sending down there to give to local health care works so they may in turn teach local communities. Along with this challenge I have created a program to teach the volunteers which are going to go to Africa about these packets and the oral health knowledge to which they can enforce learning to these health care workers. I'm so excited but only have a few short months to plan and execute everything! so wish me luck on my dream program!

Get'er DONE! 2-2-11

It's February now! gees time is going by way too fast and I can't say I'm doing so hot catching up. Yesterday I was so sick and I think I'm making myself more stressed beyond anything. I don't know why I'm so stressed but for some reason I'm not doing too weel on tests, class, and struggling with studying. I hope this is the end of this awful slow, not so productive week!
   On a happier note I was really efficent today, I finshed my patient and passed two PE's. I feel like I can make it some days and others I'm amazed that I survived. I'm getting so much faster in clinic though! what a joy and a blessing it is to know that at least something is paying off the way I want it too. My next patient has braces and I think that will be a fun and new challenge! Hope all is well with the rest of the classes and wish everyone the best. I'm signing off for today! Thanks!

1-31-11 Well I'm behind

Today was the most awesome day I finsihed my patient and got two sealants done! wow so great! I was extremely happy so I definitely met my goal for the day. and I do have to say this awesome 80's music really puts me in a good mood.

So next time I'm going to pass off two PE's and finsih my patient! yay... sorry so short today.
